Dear friend, many thanks for your question, in fact this is very good question and I am happy to reply it. Here you have not mentioned your educational qualifications, and what you are doing at present. Let me tell you something about a geographer. A geographer is a person who study geography. It is the earth's natural environment and human society. Although there is a common notion that geographer are only involved in making maps, in fact map study is known as cartography.
In geography there are mainly two fields of study, which is further subdivided into specializations.
A MSc or MA (Master of Arts) will be technically eligible for jobs but due to severe competitions a person holding a doctoral degree in geography will have a better edge for getting a job. The reason being is that now days there are job opportunities for a geographer in governmental sector such as colleges, universities, research institutions and governmental laboratories. For getting entry here as lecturer, assistant professor, assistant scientist or technical person, one has to fill academic performance index (API) form at the time of application for a job. The marks obtained in the API form will decide the eligibility of a person to be called for the interview. Why I am writing all this because, you will now understand that to become a geographer or to get a job as geographer , the graduate degree is not enough. One has to to be properly academically qualified along with other achievements. The other achievement are, how many students a person has supervised, how many research papers has been published in high impact factor journal, how many review articles are to your credit. The number of book chapters, number or edited books or books authored. How many international of national conferences, symposium , workshops and training programs have been attended or participated..The various job opportunities for a geographer are in colleges, universities, government laboratories. In private sector the job avenues are less. With all my best wishes,Good luck
