Hi There,
As such I have always heard about a B.Sc in Nutrition and Dietetics, available to a student who is 12th Science or Home science background.
As such there are Diploma and certificate courses available from VLCC Institute.
But to be a dietitian one needs to have basic understanding of how the body system works, nutritional content of various foods and how they interact with the system and which type of diet fits which body type etc.
So knowledge about physiology is extremely important before one suggests diet to a person.
So before you opt for short term courses offered by Private institutes, please do meet the concerned person at the Institute and get a complete detailed knowledge regarding what the course would cover.

I would recommend you to go for clinical nutrition or applied nutrition course. Post-graduation in the public health nutrition and dietetics would add value to it, For private practice as well as academic career, PhD will add Dr. tag and may help you enhance your practice.
