Hey Dear,

Welcome To Careerguide.com!!!

All depends were you are working and at what level.... Professors are highly paid these days... and especially in the government sector. But there are many places were you can become a professor like a private college as well.

Table Contents

1.  Professor's Salary as a Fresher?

2.  Professor's Salary in India

3.  Assistant Professor Salary In India

4.  Associate Professor Salary In India

5.  Senior Professor Salary In India

Professors are paid on the basis of the grade pay or the pay scale that the government has set for them and with the 6th pay commission coming that has recently come up the teachers and professors are really paid well.

Salary of Assistant Professor in private college. As a fresher you will fall in the pay band of 15,600 - 39,100 and your grade pay will be 6600 and your gross pay will be around 36000 to 37000. You will get additional benefits that any government servant gets or earns as well. So if you are interested in becoming a professors then go ahead and apply for the same and you need not worry about the salary as with promotions and with experience it will only increase.

Now a days there are many private colleges that offer the same pay scale to professors as well but it might not be true in all the private colleges as many things are in their hands and many of the colleges might have their own criteria of paying the professors or their faculty members.

Many a times it is dependent on your qualification and experience and even your teaching skills. So a person you has for example done MBA and qualified NET exam for lectureship might get a job as a professors but with an equivalently low salary with might not match the standards set by the government. But that is the norm these days and one of the biggest realities.

So it is always better to look for opportunities in government sector where you will be paid equally to your designation.

Hope you are clear and ready to set your target.

Hello friend,

The professor in university is a senior person who joined the university or college as Assistant Professor then promoted to Associate professor and then finally to Professor. To become a professor in a university, it takes generally 15-20 years, depending upon the performance of the person.
As per the UGC (University Grant Commission) guidelines, the salary of a Professor is as follows:

  1. Assistant professor Grade One Rs 15600-39100 plus academic grade pay of Rs. 6600 per month. Total salary = 36240

  2. Assistant Professor Grade Two Rs. 18600-39100 plus academic grade pay of Rs. 7200 per month, Total salary = 42540

  3. Assistant Professor Grade Three Rs. 22320-39100 plus academic grade pay of Rs. 8000 per month, total salary = Rs. 50408

  4. Assistant Professor (Selection grade) Rs. Rs 31600-39100 plus academic grade pay of Rs. 9500 per month, totyal salary Rs. 69540 per month

  5. Associate Professor Rs. 31600-39100 plus academic grade pay Rs. 9500 per month, total salary = Rs. 69540 per month

  6. Professor Rs. 40890-67000 plus academic grade pay of Rs. 11000, total salary will be Rs. 88691 per month

  7. senior Professor Rs. 42120-67000 plus academic grade pay of Rs. 12000, total salary will be Rs. 92028.

Professors

These pay scales are for government colleges, universities, institutions. The private colleges and universities on the other hand, generally do not offer this package. They offer a total amount which is generally lower than the prescribed government department salary. The reason for low salary in most of the private academic sector is obvious. There are many recognized private institutions / universities and colleges, which offer the salary as per the university grand commission guidelines.

Another main reason for deciding the salary of a person is his academic qualifications, number of years of experience and other additional qualifications. These criteria is generally followed at the time of selection of a person, whether as assistant professor, Reader, Associate Professor or Professor. The academic qualification should be having a doctoral degree, a post doctoral experience from abroad, will be better to get a higher grade. The relevant experience is also very important, person having good experience is selected on on higher position.

The other or additional qualifications are, number of research papers, number of review articles published in the journal of international repute. The number of book chapters or books published by well known publishers. The number of students (Post graduate and Doctoral degree) guided. How many conferences, symposium / workshops attended or organized. How many trainings programs conducted or attended. The number of faculty development programs attended or recognized.

These all criteria play very important role while selecting a person as a Professor and his salary. Good Luck....
