Hello My Dear Career Aspirant,
You have done BBA and BEd and now thinking for post graduation in economics or mba. Yes, you are really confused, however let me assure you that you are not the only one who is confused about career. In my more than seven years of career counselling experience, I have seen many students who are confused and after guiding them they become successful.
Hi Pooja,
Just like the above counselor Dr, Anand, I am too confused why you have shifted from one career to another.
Looks like Teaching was what you wished to pursue, and now you wish to shift to either an MBA or economics.
Never the less, both are great careers and it is never too late to make a decision. But you need to be confirmed of your choice now.Since Post Graduation is a stream whereby you specialise or master in a subject, you would here have to make a confirmed choice.
Looking at your basic qualification which is management related, I would also recommend an MBA program. You can choose from Marketing, Finance, HR as well as other MBA specializations that are unique like Hospitality management, Business / Entrepreneur management, Inventory management etc.
Hope this helps.
Wish u good luck...
Hello Pooja,Welcome to careerguide.com.Thanks for approaching uas and writing us your career query.
Pooja you hold a good qualification with you and pleased to hear that you have been thinking to go for the PG course. Well i would like to ponder on the following questions-1.You wish to make your career in teaching or if you are currently teaching than wish to continue your career in teaching.2.DO you want to make a career in the Management field.
Just answer their questions if your answer is yes to the Q.1 than i would suggest you to go for the MA in Economics .On the successful completion of MA economics you can teach economics in schools while furthermore you can apply for NET or SET exam and can join as professor of economics in the college. Even if you don't wish to continue with the teaching field you can take up a job either in the Government sector or private sector as per your wish.
While if you don't wish to continue your career in Teaching field and wish to make a career in Management field. Than in that case go for the MBA course. In MBA course you can select the specialisation subject as per your interest. With MBA you can start to work in the corporate sector.Eventually you have an option from MBA to continue your career in teaching field as professor in management college through NET/SET exam.
Even if you still have the confusion than in that case i would suggest you to go for the careerguide.com career aptitude assessment. It will give us a clear picture where exaclty your interest lies and which field will be useful for you to make a career. A career counsellor will guide very well with your career report from the panel.
I hope you find this information relevant to your career query.
Feel free to get in touch again.
Wish you Good Luck
Thank YouWarm regards,Prathamesh K.
Dear Aspirant,
I feel you should do MA Economics which will enable you to get into teaching in Junior Colleges.
Best wishes
Dear Pooja,
Thanks for writing to www.careerguide.com!
Well, it seems you are confused between choosing post-graduate course in economics and management.
You have done BEd. It means you are interested in teaching field. You can make career in academics with both MA as well as MBA.
Now it is important to choose between economics and management. You can prioritize. Choose MBA as first option and keep economics as second option.
Since you have done BBA, first recommendation would be to go for MBA. You can choose your specialization such as Finance, Marketing, Human Resources, Operations and International Business based on your interest. For MBA, you should do from reputed institutions. You need to crack CAT, MAT or other entrance tests. I encourage you to prepare for CAT/MAT and get into premier institute for MBA. Doing MBA from good institute would enhance your knowledge, skills and enhance employability. Most premier institutions offer placements and companies prefer to pick professionals from premier institutions. If you are interested to get into academics after MBA, clarify NET and get into academics as assistant professor.
If you are good in economics and want to make career in economics then doing MA in economics would be better. After MA, you can either work in private sector or join university/college. To get into academics, you need to clarify NET.
Hope this is helpful.
Best Wishes for your bright career,
Apurva Kumar Pandya, PhD
With MA Economics there is huge scope for you to get employed in corporate research departments as well research institutes like IGIDR, etc. Here in this case, MBA would not be helpful at all, since MA Economics is a technically sound course and MBA is not.
Confusion between MA Economics and MBA is natural, however it will get cleared if you choose where you wish to settle in as a career. - corporate or teaching / research.
