The basic qualification to be a physician is ,MBBS ( Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery). The duration of course is 5.6 years including one year of internship. The admission to MBBS course is made on the basis of All India medical entrance examination i.e. NEET.The eligibility for entrance is 12th with physics, chemistry and biology . The course content includes anatomy, physiology,biochemistry , microbiology, pathology, pharmacology,forensic medicine, general medicine,surgery, ophthalmology, ENT (ear,nose an throat), gynaecologyand obstetrics, pediatrics, orthopedics and preventive and socialmedicine. After MBBS ,one can opt for post graduate level studies MD or MS). The duration of post graduate degree is three years. The specialization can be done in general medicine, general surgery, paediatricsobstetrics & gynaecology, dermatology,ophthalmology,orthopedics, psychiatry,anesthesiology etc. The general physician diagnose and treats the every day sand sundry ailments of the human body.The demand for medical professionals are on the rise with the super specialty hospitals booming across the globe.
