Dear Aspirant,
Nice to know your interest in the legal field.
Legal profession has always been demanding, having great scope and diversity for practice and work. There are plenty of jobs available also in legal firms as well as companies.
To become a Lawyer, you first need to become a graduate in any field (excluding fine arts) with minimum 50% marks. Then you can apply for LL.B course with your local University affiliated college and which is also approved by Bar Council of India.
You can also do LLB from National Law Universities of India. They conduct a National Entrance Test called as CLAT (Common Law Admission Test). If you can clear the test and get admission into any of the National Law Universities in India, then you career in the legal profession is more secured. Doing LLB from National Law Universities is like doing MBA from IIMs and BTech from IITs.
For admission into state level universities, you need to appear for any entrance tests, however some colleges may conduct entrance tests.
After you get your LLB degree (3 years course), then you can apply for Sanad (license for practicing as a Lawyer) to the Bar Council of India. After getting license you can practice on your own or join any lawyer firm.
I would recommend you to do LLM after LLB so that you can specialise in some law field like Criminal, Civil, Family, Cyber, etc.
Best wishes
Hello there,
Adding to what Dr.Anandjee has mentioned, You also have an option after 12th, whereby you could pursue either
B.Sc LLB: Whereby you would have science subjects in combination with LAW subjectsBALLB: Whereby you have a combination of ART related subjects like History, political science, economics, sociology etc with LAW subjects.
This course is after 12th, and is 5 years duration.
Eligibility is passing the LAW entrance exam called CLAT, for entering The National College of LAW.
Other LAW colleges, have their own individual entrance exams.
Just after completing a course in LAW, you do not begin immediately fighting cases, you need to practice or rather work as an intern with an experienced lawyer.Except in cases of corporate lawyer.
Hope this helps.
Wish you good luck..............
Just to add, by LLB from National Law University, I meant that BA LLB can be done by appearing for CLAT.
Ms. Mukherjee has correctly pointed out the same.
In order to post replies to the question: "Law and order , what all ,how to become a lawyer ? Is there any admission tests for the same?"
