I think you can combine your desire to join public service and banking, by preparing for Reserve Bank of India (RBI) exams of Grade A, Grade B.
For this you need to have a good background of finance, accounts, banking, maths and economics. For appearing for RBI vacancy exams, you need to be minimum Masters degree holder. Most preferred Masters degrees in RBI are Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Finance, Costing, Accountancy, Treasury.
You can also think for IES or IRS exam which is Administrative Services Exam but related to core Finance, Accounts or Commerce field.
