Dear friend, thank you for your question. you have not mentioned about your educational qualifications and what you are doing at present. The career options of geography subject is huge in governmental as well as in private sector. There are many other factors to get a suitable job in geography field, such as; academic qualifications, place of work and experience in relevant field.
The academic qualifications matters a lot, a person holding a PhD degree has lot more job opportunities compared to a post graduate in geography. The place of work, whether in governmental sector (school, colleges, universities, institutes or governmental laboratories) also very important.A person (post graduate) may join as school teacher, and person holding a doctoral degree is technically qualified to make an entry as lecturer, assistant professor, assistant scientist and technical officer. Here the geographer is involved in teaching and research. In the government laboratories the person is employed a geographer, which surveys about lands and water bodies and also prepares the map of an area. The person also having good knowledge of information technology or computer branch do have an added advantages because now a days the maps are prepared in digital form along with paper form. Therefore, person having a good knowledge of computer application can do job better. The geographer also work as a researcher, who explores the new ares and prepares the new three dimensional maps.
A geographer do have lot many job opportunities in private companies, which are involved in exploration of minerals, ores and petro-chemical products. Here the person has more field work compared to laboratory work, but finally the geographer has to analyze the products in the laboratory. The geographer uses new instruments to explore the petro chemical products. Based upon the qualifications and experience the person gets various jobs, such as supervisor, technical officer, field officer and research officer. The job opportunities for a geographer are many in India as well as in abroad. The person with a background of social or human geography has more job opportunities in India, while the physical geography field has more job scope in Middle East region, because of petroleum and gas reservoirs. My advice to you is that you should make yourself academic qualified and get some experience. Then there will no dearth of job for you. With all my best wishes,Good Luck..
