Dear friend, thank you for your question, I am happy to answer through careerguide.com. The physicist is a person or scientist who study or deals or do research in physics. The physicist usually work in three sector, government (colleges, universities, private sector and government laboratories. The government laboratories gives maximum job opportunities.
The main work and responsibilities of a physicist depends upon his qualifications and place of work. If a physicist is a simple post graduate then he will work as technical person (senior technical assistant). If the person is holding a doctoral degree then he will work as an academicians or scientist. The physicist in university or colleges is involved in teaching, research and other departmental activities. The physicist daily interacts with students, colleagues, seniors and some times with clients.

Being academician the physicist has to take classes (graduate, post graduate, doctoral degree programs) on regular basis, guide the masters and doctoral degree students for there research programs. A physicist is also supposed to submit the research proposals to funding agencies for funds. After winning the projects, he has to work on it, carry out research work, prepare reports and submit to the funding agency. He is also supposed to write research papers, review articles, book chapters and books. These things are required for the academic growth and promotion of the physicist.

Physicists

Besides teaching and conducting research the physicist also organizes or attends or participates the international or national conferences, symposium, workshops and training programs. These things are very important to keep update in the field. The conference gives a platform to a physicist to interact with people from all over the globe.

Along with these activities there are regular meetings with colleagues, superiors both inter as well intra departmental. The physicist also looks after other jobs in department such as exam conduction or quality control or course curriculum modification or allotment. As the person becomes senior, he or she is also given the responsibility of the department as Head or college / institute as dean or director. After taking a administrative position the physicist gets involved more in management aspects rather than the teaching and research.

He also acts as member of several committees in university, colleges or institute, as member of selection committee.
In private sector the job of a physicist is routine and he has to follow the protocol of the company. In governmental laboratories the physicist mainly looks after the research field.

With all my best wishes,

Good Luck..
