Bachelor in Computer Application (BCA) is an undergraduate degree course in computer applications. Computer Applications or Application software is computer software designed to help the user to perform a singular or multiple related specific tasks. It aims at inculcating essential skills as demanded by the global software industry through an interactive learning process. This also includes team-building skills, audio-visual presentations and personality development programs.
The program enhances analytical and communication skill besides inculcating virtues of self-study. It is a popular course for students who want to make a career in the field of computers and Information Technology (IT). With the rapid growth in technology and popularization of a paperless society, the demand for computer professionals is increasing day by day.
The duration of this course is 3 years divided into 6 semesters. After completing BCA, a student can go for MCA which is a master course in computer application and is considered equivalent to engineering course B.Tech. Eligibility Criteria for BCA Course
Any student who has passed the 12th grade with more than 55% marks is eligible for this course. There is no compulsion as such of having Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics as main subjects in 12th standard. The Commerce and Arts students are eligible to join the course as much as the science students are. Further, the following criteria should also be fulfilled:

Scope and Strength of BCA Course
There is a very wide scope in the field of BCA. The student can work as a system engineer, junior programmer, web developer or as a system administrator. This field provides ample opportunities to make a career not only in private sector but also in the public sector. Both the options of self-employment and job are available for a BCA graduate. There are many software MNCs (Multi-National Companies) which provide job to the BCA graduates. If the candidate has a work experience and all the necessary required skills then he/she can hold good positions in MNCs. Companies like Info-sys, TCS, Google, Tech-Mahindra, Cisco, and WIPRO are some of the major recruiters of BCA graduates.
Apart from the private sector, BHEL, NSDL, MTNL, and BSNL are some of the government information technology companies that hire BCA graduates for various posts in their companies. The Banking sector also provides good job opportunities for them. The BCA course also opens the gate to different postgraduate programs. These include MSc. I.T., PGDCA, MSc. CS and MCA.
Candidates who do not require a job after BCA may also opt for higher studies. They may go in for MBA or MCA after their graduation as per their interest. BCA provides a sound academic base from which an advanced career in Computer Application can be developed. Students can also go in for Networking Diploma and prepare for CCNP or CCNA certification. He can also prepare for Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MSCA) Certification or Rehdat certifications and work as a system administrator or Desktop Technician or Help Desk Assistant.
