Hello Prabhat,Welcome and Thanks for visiting CareerGuide.com!!!Astrophysicists explore physical properties of celestial objects including stars, planets and galaxies; thus they need a substantial amount of scientific knowledge. Joining local astronomy clubs and participating in related events can be an early way for aspiring astrophysicists to meet people in the field and develop an understanding of the scientific community.
Astrophysicists is a demanding and competitive field, entering a well-regarded undergraduate program could prove beneficial to a prospective astrophysicsts educational and career path. With that in mind High school students should strive to maintain a high grade-point average and take advanced classes in science and mathematics to increase their chances of admission to a quality school.
Becoming an astrophysicist requires training in a combination of astronomy and physics.
Astronomy & Astrophysics may be taught as a special course in the M.sc. programmes of the physics departments in the universities or colleges. It is desirable for a students to acquire proficiency in physics and mathematics at the graduate level and then to Astronomy & Astrophysics specialisation. An engineer with a B.Tech or B.E degree, with an aptitude for Astronomy and Astrophysics, can also enter the field as research scholar. It is not necessary to undergo any formal training in Astronomy and Astrophysics at the undergraduate level,it helps the student to develop a general interest in the filed, from reading good popular books or as an amateur astronomer.Research scholars are expected to undergo one year course work in various subjects including Foundations of Classical & Quantum Physics,Mathematical Techniques,Numerical analysis & Computing, besides introductory courses in astronomy & Astrophysics. A good Ph.D Program takes about four years to complete. One can apply to the following institutes:-1. Indian Institute of astrophysics (IIA)2.Inter-University centre for Astronomy & Astrophysics(IUCAA)
while one has to give an entrance exam known as Joint Entrance Screening Test(JEST) for Ph.D programmes. It is conducted every year in the month of february.
i hope you find this information helpful and useful.
Wish you Good Luck !!!
feel free to get in touch again.
