Dear Student,

To begin with you can seek admission in B.Sc ( Hons) Physics programme . Bachelor f Science is a three years programme. After completion of your graduation you can either puruse Integrated M.Sc- PhD Programme or Master of Science programme followed by PhD. The duration of integrated course is 6 years. There are various institutes in India offering an integrated M.Sc -PhD programme in Astronomy & Astrophysics. The selection procedure usually involves a good and consistent acdemic record during graduation, ascreeting test ( JEST) and personal interview. You are advised to prepare for an entrance test from the second year of your graduation as competition is relatively tough and demands alot of hardwork, dedication and sincerity on the part of student. Some of the institutes offering integrated M.Sc- PhD programme & MSc are :-
Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore
Jwahar Lal Nehru Technological University , Hyderabad

Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, Pune
Indian Institute of Science Bangalore
Birla institute of Technological Sciences Pilani

Dear Friend

Astronomy is the applied phycis and mathematics which require core physics at fundamental level. Aiming such brillient profession is always charm oneself, family and friends so must discuss the requirement at academic level. Just see the curricular structure and find the modules and analyse them whether they look interesting in genuine ground or not. After doing so things will be clear at your fundamental level, and also will reveal the superficial interest due to the social references which seems to be redundant at juvenile stage and consequently students commit mistake, this is all about the pre-mature decision so one should avoid it by doing self analysis. Interest of any subject at school level brings you distinct result in that particular subject which is also one of the genuine indicators about your core strength if you had legitimate evalutaion system at board level-CBSE ICSE NCERT OR any state level of secondary examination.

THough have good percentage not very good or excellent to attepmt IIT-JEE which also could have given you exposure at astronomer level IIT offers excellent course structure,if you have second thought then re-appear in 12th and imrove your result percentage. By the way other institutes in India and abroad also offer you such program at UG and PG level. Even you can join IIT, IISc Bangalore or ISRO after finishing UG in astronomy and then look for higher study from these institutions.

Before joining this program at UG level you must prepare yourself as you know entrance test is very tough to crack which require your fundamental and elementery education very sound where not only physcis and maths are prevelent though all the subjects including english need to be extra-ordinary. So strat to work out at initial level and cgibe your ambition a meanigful shape with the structural planing. Read all the books of NCERT from 8th to 12th and then draw your conclusion if you have done good job while preperation only then you can achieve the path of your success in true sense. This type of preparedness is essential before joing any course work otherwise you will go into the depression due to unwanted ambiguity which does not make any sense.

Good luck
