Biotechnology can be defined as the provision of useful products and services from biological processes. It is the study of direct manipulation of biological ,life at a fundamental level to produce substances useful to humans.Often,biotechnology can provide cleaner,cheaper and lower,energy way of doing jobs that were previously carried out in chemical factories,manufacturing or agriculture.Or in every simple words we can say,it is application of existing scientific methods and techniques aimed at improving the biological systems,which include micro-organisms,plants and animals. Eventually,it is meant for the better meant of human kinds.
It is a research oriented science a combination of biology and technology covering a wide variety of subjects like genetics,biochemistry,microbiology,immunology,virology,chemistry and engineering and many other subjects like health and medicine,agriculture and animal husbandry,cropping system and crop management,ecology,cell biology,soil science and soil conservation,bio-statistics,plant physiology etc.
One should have a sound base of Physics,Chemistry,Biology.You can apply for the B.Sc Biotechnology or B.Tech Biotechnology.While pursuing further masters Degree will be very helpful to have a great career.
Career in Biotechnology is both rewarding and challenging.There are several career opportunities in this field.The emoluments that are paid in this field starts from Rs.15,000-20,000 for a fresher while one can expect a hike in the same depending on the application of his/her own skills and knowledge in this field.So one can expect in next 5 years around around Rs.1lakh or above every month.
While the salary also depends in which sector you wish to work whether Private or Public Sector.
