Below are the eligibility criteria to become a professor. Please note that the criteria may vary from university to university and also the kind of expertise that you have and therefore I shall hereby be mentioning only broad idea.

If you want to make a career as a teacher in college or university, you need to have masters and clarify national eligibility test for assistant professor. First, entry level position is assistant professor, then the next senior position is associate professor and then professor. After retitemenr , exceptional teacher or researcher get apex appointment as Professor Emiritus

I take your question as 'want to enter into the teaching field at under and post graduate level'.
Firstly you need to be a Masters degree holder in your respective field of subjects. After Masters degree you need to qualify the National Eligibility Test (NET) or the State Eligibility Test (SET) conducted by the UGC in your respective subject.
Once you qualify the NET or SET, you are eligible to apply for Assistant Professor designation and salary is based on the UGC / AICTE rules. For Engineering field, NET or SET are not required, however you need to be MTech or ME to get into the Assistant Professor level.
Completing PhD will be most recommended to have a secure and stable career in teaching.
